They have just released a killer album titled “Lingonberry”. They are working with a Swedish label. They sing in English, but they are from Milan. Who are they? Deaf Lingo! Here’s an interesting exclusive interview with them.

Your album was revealed a few weeks ago. Are you happy with the response? What seems to be the thing that people like the most about it?
Hey! Since we are a live band, I think people appreciate the energy and impact we can bring out during concerts. We tried to reproduce the same feeling on the new record, and so far the response has been very positive.

What’s new compared to your previous album? Was the songwriting process any different? Our first record Bug was more of a living room project. It was born out of our singer’s need to start a solo-project. In the last record, on the other hand, there was a real sharing of the band experience. The creation process was longer but we are very satisfied with what came out of it.

What are the most common mistakes you think people make when it comes to write music? What do you do to avoid them? Based on our experience, the only advice we can give you is to not hesitate to publish your songs. Be quick in doing so, otherwise the magic is lost.

Why is your album called “Lingonberry”? There is no great story under the name “Lingonberry”. It actually doesn’t make much sense. We liked that word, we liked that there’s LINGO in it. I know it’s stupid but it is so!

What classic rock elements define your sound? What do you think is something new you’re bringing in rock music as contemporary band? We are fans of 70s rock music. Artists such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy have always been in our listening. We especially appreciate guitar harmonization, and you can definitely hear something in our record. I don’t think we are bringing anything new to rock music. It’s all been said before. I think it’s about taking what you like and playing it with your own vision.

There’s a good amount of punk sounds in your music. Are punk rockers your main audience? What punk bands influenced you the most in the writing of your album?

We have always played punk music since we were teenagers. I think I can safely say that Deaf Lingo is a punk rock band. We grew up listening to the Misfits, Ramones, Dead Boys and Sex Pistols. Talking about the 80s/90s I would say we were influenced by bands like Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana, Pixies and Weezer. Our main audience are punk rockers for sure!

What is it like for an Italian band to sing in English? Do Italians appreciate this or they prefer bands who sing in their native language?

I couldn’t tell you whether people in Italy prefer Italian or English. For us it is quite natural to sing in English. It’s been since we had no hair on our faces that we’ve been listening to music sung in English, the transition to doing it was automatic. We also listen to a lot of Italian music, so who knows. Maybe one day we’ll get around to writing something in Italian.

Are you making any plans to tour abroad? We really want to play abroad, I think that this is going to happen next year. If you guys want us to play in your city please contact us!
