Perhaps known best for their witty quips in-line between the music and humorous anecdotes within their lyrics (just watch the videos for ‘Big Wow’ and ‘Satdeenight Ready’ below), Ernest Moon presents their new single ‘Unkind’. This happens to be the lead track from their forthcoming long-player, titled ‘Skipping to Maloo’ on . This is one of 8 tracks they will be springing on the world come June 15.

Ernest Moon is the Liverpool-based duo of Steven Doran and Brian Murphy, who not only have a way with words, but whose music also finds them in a clever crossroads of Brit-pop music and art-rock, but you could say this music does have pronounced pop sensibilities. It’s catchy to say the least. While the earlier-released songs (mentioned above) are more upbeat with drive, this new offering is a pensive piece that is more laid-back and seemingly well-grounded.
Doran and Murphy took advantage of the past two years of Covid-laden worries to actually get in the studio and do something. The product is the forthcoming ‘Skipping to Maloo’, recorded at Liverpool’s Ark Recording Studios by Steve Powell (Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band) and Rory Ballantyne.
Brian Murphy says, “The song ‘Unkind’ was born out of a chord progression that came to me over time. The mood of these chords and the sway of a slow 6/8 rhythm seemed to suggest the ardent theme and lyrics. The song starts with general statements we are told and subsequently live by. The later verse moves from the general to the personal and my own moods and desires. I wanted the chorus to be as simply written as possible. An innocent plea in a narcissistic age.”
Since forming in 2017, Ernest Moon has released two EPs, debuting with their ‘Ba-jesus’ EP, recorded at Orphan Recording in Dublin with Peter Ashmore and Gavin Glass(Paul Brady, John Grant, Lisa Hannigan, Mundy), followed by the electric crack 6-track collection entailed in the‘UH’ EP, releasedin 2019 and recorded in Barcelona by Marc Antoli.
‘Unkind’ can now be obtained via Bandcamp,, where the full ‘Skipping to Maloo’ LP can also be pre-ordered. As of June 15, it will be available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music and Spotify.
