After taking 2021 by storm with her debut EP, Canadian musician, vocalist, producer, and creative director, Terez, is back with a brand new, captivating single. Recognized across the country for her incredible creativity, the Calgary based artist has been featured on eTalk, across the CTV News network, and on radio stations throughout the country. Terez is a proudly Mètis, openly LGBTQ+ artist who ranks among the 2.1% of female producers in the industry today. She writes, records, and produces music for herself and other artists. With her expertly crafted music and visuals, Terez has had a massive impact on her Canadian audience by writing songs that are not only relatable, but offer listeners another perspective on a multitude of subjects. With plans to release her second EP, Terez is gearing up to release her first single from the project, titled, “Ugh Boy”, a fun, cheeky song about respecting boundaries, and the first she ever produced completely by herself.
A hard-hitting Pop song about respecting boundaries and consent, “Ugh Boy” cleverly turns the notion of men using women for what they want on its head. Born from a real life experience of not wanting to go any further with a partner and being upfront about it, “Ugh Boy” expresses the female side of an often male narrative, by providing a satirical take on female empowerment, and a light approach to women owning their sexuality. Blending Contemporary R&B with next-generation Pop, “Ugh Boy” features Terez’s classic sound with and new elements woven throughout, including more of a spotlight on her incredible vocal talent. With references to titles from her previous EP, including singles “Kitty”, and “Cake”, Terez showcases her unparalleled creativity, and wit, on the track. Opening with an incredible and harmonic vocal run, “Ugh Boy” also features a sixty layer chorus at the end, where each vocal track was recorded one at a time. Discovering how much she enjoyed recording vocals on her own during the process, Terez has somehow become even more hands on in her music creation and has once again given her audience a captivating, relatable, and inspirational song with a cheeky twist.
