Raised on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario, noelle’s upbringing exposed her to a vast range of musical genres, from Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan to the powwow drum and native wind flute of her Indigenous roots. At just 20 years old, noelle has been singing since she was barely old enough to walk. Initially finding her footing through YouTube, noelle amassed a following of 94K+ subscribers resulting from her viral covers of timeless classics and today’s biggest acts. Expressing her thoughts and emotions at her piano, noelle began writing her own music as a therapeutic form of self-expression. The artists whose words she once personalized through her covers, soon became the major influences behind her own music.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

During the pandemic, I’ve been doing a ton of songwriting sessions over zoom. Creativity, for me, comes through a lot of different things. Listening to music and watching interesting movies keeps me creative. Taking care of my body and taking breaks when I need them also keeps my creativity fresh.

Tell us a bit about your musical background

When I was younger, I posted covers on YouTube. The videos got me in contact with an amazing vocal coach from France who I did skype opera lessons with for a few years. I think the opera lessons really helped my range. My mom taught me basic piano chords when I was an early teen, and that’s when I started writing songs.

How would you describe your music in three words?

Emotional, sultry, and haunting.

When you first started did you have a sense of which type of music you wanted to make, or did it take a while to land on a sound?

When I first signed with my label, I had a very clear picture of what I wanted my sound to be. Being so young while working with so many amazing, experienced musicians was intimidating. I used to just let them steer the session, which led to many pop songs that weren’t authentic to me. I soon gained my voice and spoke up for myself, and all the music that I make now is very true to me.

What was the inspiration behind your new EP ‘30K’?

‘30k’ walks you through the highs and lows of young love. It’s something everyone goes through, and I want my listeners to know that they are not alone.

Who was involved in making this EP?

The amazing writers and producers involved are DCF, Joel Stouffer, Mike Wise, Tee, Geoff Warburton, Nathan Ferraro, Anthony Wright, Alonzo Moore, Phil Cook, Alex T, and Sweater Beats.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I love sad songs. I would describe my music as soft pop RnB with a jazz influence.

Is there a moment or memory in your life as a musician that you always want to hold onto? Or a moment that has taught you a lot?

Working with all of the incredible writers has taught me so much. I can’t thank them enough for their huge part in my journey as an artist and songwriter.

Describe your favourite and least favourite part about being a musician?

My favourite part of being a musician is all of the creative aspects like the songwriting, performing, and photoshoots. My least favourite part would have to be the business side in general. I just want to be free to do what I love.

Do you have more new music scheduled to come out this year?

I absolutely do, sooner than you think!

When you kick back, who are some of the artists you listen to?

Daniel Caesar, Lewis Capaldi, Silk Sonic, Sabrina Claudio

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I have lots of hobbies. Golfing, baking, cooking, fitness and fashion.

Any fun facts or hidden talents you would like to share?

I can do some whistle notes like Mariah Carey. Probably not quite as well as she can though!
