Dublin electronic artist Circuit3 has signed with Manchester’s AnalogueTrash label for the new album ‘Technology For The Youth’, ahead of which comes the upbeat lead single‘Future Radio’, along with two B-side tracks, including a remix by Ricardo Autobahn (AKA John Matthews), best known as one half of Spray and the UK chart success The Cuban Boys. ‘Kosmos 954’ is a non-album instrumental, named for the Soviet reconnaissance satellite that scattered radioactive debris over northern Canada when it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere in 1978.

With a catchy and attractive mix of analogue synths, mechanical beats and melodic vocal hooks, this music notably recalls OMD and A Flock of Seagulls. At a time when the future of the International Space Station hangs in the balance, where private enterprises have entered the space race and even musicians are asked to sign copyright and royalties-related documents referring to the universe rather than just Earth, this music harkens back to a warmer more optimistic time, when everything seemed uncertain yet open to possibilities.

Circuit3 is the alias of Irish electronic artist and songwriter Peter Fitzpatrick. Using analogue synthesizers as a vehicle for lyrical storytelling, this music is heavily influenced by the classic era of electronic pop. This music is also undeniably retro and futuristic at the same time. Just read this lyrics excerpt:

One Small Step Becomes A Giant Leap
And Sound That Happened Yet Will Set Us Free

Future Radio! music in the atmosphere
Soundwave Stereo! the future’s already here
Here on the radio Receiving in Stereo
We’re Watching The World Below

This single was co-produced by Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk) collaborator iEuropean (Sean Barron) and mastered at WAV Mastering by Richard Dowling, known for his work with Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Motorhead, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, New Order and Sparks. The accompanying video was edited by Peter Fitzpatrick, featuring animation by SNVGraphics and footage from Rodnae Productions.

A childhood fascination with space provides the emotional narrative arc for ‘Technology For The Youth’, a collection of crisp electronic pop songs and atmospheric instrumentals created with an enviable array of analogue synthesizers. It focuses squarely on that period before digital synthesis, just as the lyrics are informed by those endeavours in space exploration pre-dating the first Space Shuttle left Cape Canaveral. The electronic pop songs found on this album are constructed from the brave ambitions of forward-thinking scientists and politicians, and the remembered hopes, dreams and fascinations of a young Dublin boy.

“Every Circuit3 album features a track co-written with Brian McCloskey, better known to many as the curator of the magnificent Smash Hits magazine archive ‘Like Punk Never Happened’. From California, he sent me lyrics for ‘Future Radio’, which captured my childhood love of pirate radio stations popped into a blender with the space race.  Starting out as an homage to The Buggles, it becomes a boy’s adventure tale, drifting off to sleep to the sound of pirate radio signals ebbing and flowing into my dreams,” says Peter Fitzpatrick.

Circuit3 debuted with the ‘siliconchipsuperstar’ LP (2018), followed by the album ‘The Price Of Nothing & The Value Of Everything’ (2019), praised by no less than Martyn Ware (The Human League, Heaven17). More recently, Circuit3 also released a remix created of Rodney Cromwell ‘Opus Three’.

‘Future Radio’ is available across online platforms, including Spotify andApple Music, as well as Bandcamp. ‘Technology For The Youth’ will be released, both on vinyl and digitally, on July 15.
