Bright and cool as a popsicle on a hot day, Brett Wiscons new song, “Let’s Do It Again,” from his forthcoming album, “Late Bloomer” (out July 13, 2022), is everything a summer hit should be — upbeat, catchy, and so much fun. The finger snaps and saxophone make the track sunshine-y, and Wiscons’ vocals are friendly ear candy. Add a video with home movies of the Indianapolis-based singer-songwriter’s daughter, Luca, into the equation and you have the perfect summertime clip.

Amplify Music Magazine is pleased to present the premiere of the “Let’s Do It Again” video here, and we had the pleasure of sitting down with Wiscons recently to talk about the song and the video.  Read our Q&A below and give the video a look.

What was the inspiration behind this song?  What is it about?

The inspiration was my daughter, Luca. She, like most kids, loves saying “let’s do it again” when she does something fun. She’s probably said that phrase to me or her mother over 500 times. I liked that idea for a song, so the lyrics started from there. Then, I passed on those lyric ideas to my producer and collaborator, Thom Daugherty, and he came up with the breezy, fun melody and music. We got lucky to have Rachel McGoy provide some incredible background vocals and Edwin McCain’s sax player, Craig Shields, to lay down a memorable part. Pretty cool to me that the guy who played sax on the smash hit “I’ll Be” from one of my favorite songwriters is playing on this track!

The video has a wonderful, carefree vibe to it.  Is that your daughter in the video?  Who put the video together?  How did you come to work with that person?

That is my daughter, Luca, featured throughout and through the years. The incredible editor Maddy Montoya (who also did my video for “Vertical City” in May 2021) did a tremendous job putting it all together and “telling a story about Luca.”

Whose idea was the video treatment?  Did you film all of the clips yourself?  What is your favorite clip among them?  Why do you like it best?
I asked Maddy to give it a “home video” feel and to have that old camcorder vibe from the 1990s. All of the footage was from me and taken on my phone. It really came together well. My favorite clip would have to be of Luca and her three cousins dancing towards the end. I just love seeing my daughter happy and carefree and spontaneous.

What story do you hope the video tells when paired with the song?

The story of Luca from birth to age six. I also hope Luca can look back on this video in 20 years and really appreciate it. I just love that little girl so much. I am also hopeful that other parents and music fans can connect with it on some level based on their experiences with their own children.

How does this song fit into your forthcoming album?  What makes it similar to or different from the other songs?

This song is one of the true “bright” songs on the album. We have a nice mix of rockers and ballads, and this one just gives off the vibe of a carefree summer anthem. I love the diversity of the songs on this collection!

What’s next for Brett Wiscons?

My album will be out on July 13th. I have some cool shows lined up around then, including Chicago’s City Winery on July 10th and New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall on July 13th. I plan to be touring through the summer and fall as well as releasing my fifth novel in the Bear Whitman private detective series by the end of 2022 as well. I’m making up for lost time!
