Photos and review by Angie Flatt – Mary J. Blige rolled into Nashville and wowed the sold out arena audience with her 32 song set. The show featured all her hits and many costume changes. She started the show in the electric blue corset with matching shorts and thigh boots. Flames shot up from the back behind the band who sat at the very back of the stage. When dancers were present, she had two male dancers and two female dancers.
Next set was in red sequined top and shorts with thigh boots. She began this set coming out of the floor on a gold chaise. She sang her newest music from Good Morning Gorgeous. She ended this set with fan favorite “I’m Goin’ Down” – at the end she literally goes down into the stage floor singing.
Last costume change was a pink sequined outfit.
It was an amazing show. She sounded great and her dancing and stamina belied her age of 51. The vibe she gave off was very strong and empowering. You could tell she was a woman who had been through some things in life and she sang about surviving and coming out on the other side of those things better and stronger.
She stated “I think I’m doing just fine on my own”. In speaking of past broken relationships and being single. She felt every bit of some of those song lyrics. The crowd sang a lot of those songs right back to her word for word. The majority of the crowd was women. She was vulnerable in discussing her past brokeness, but at the same time empowering and showing strength and trying to “hand off” that strength to her fans. “I’m Not Gon’ Cry” (from Waiting to Exhale) brought down the house, and IMO, showed the most emotion from her and the audience as well.
