Just a few weeks ago, Brooklyn-based art pop-rock collective Gramercy Arms shared with us an acoustic version of their song ‘Yesterday’s Girl’. To our surprise, they are already back with follow-up single‘Tricky Love Stuff’, the second single from their ‘Deleted Scenes’ LP, slated for release via Magic Door Record Label on March 3.
Upbeat and fun, this high energy track is a head-turner and, juxtaposed with the first single from the album, it’s obvious that the album will be a diverse affair. We look forward to hearing the rest of this 10-track record.
Gramercy Arms is a revolving collective, masterminded by Dave Derby (The Dambuilders, Lloyd Cole). Inspired by the artistic heyday of ‘70s and ‘80s-era New York City, they make addictive indie pop – exquisite hook-laden melodies filled with lyrics that will have you floating back in time, remembering your favorite mistake.
With Dave Derby on vocals, ‘Tricky Love Stuff’ features contributions by the amazingly talented Claudia Chopek on violin, Peter Hess on saxophone and backing vocals by Reneé Lo Bue (Elk City, Flowers of America), Gary Burton and Jessie Kilguss. This star-studded album also involves members of Guided by Voices, Phillip Glass Ensemble, The Dambuilders, Nada Surf, Luna, Elk City, Aeon Station, The Little River Band, Lloyd Cole and the Negatives and Joan As Police Woman.
“‘Tricky Love Stuff’ is a happy-sad pop song about teenage high school romance mixed in with adolescent awkwardness and I guess is actually fairly autobiographical,” says Dave Derby.
Produced, recorded and mixed by Ray Ketchem (Guided By Voices, Luna, Elk City) at Magic Door Recording, this album was mastered by award-winning engineer Greg Calbi (John Lennon, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Tom Petty, Todd Rundgren).
Lyrically driven and rich on vocal-harmony, interspersed with elements of 60s sunshine pop and folk-rock, ‘Deleted Scene’ follows previous albums‘The Seasons of Love’ (2012) and ‘Gramercy Arms’ (2008).
As of January 25, ‘Tricky Love Stuff’ is available across online platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and other online stores, as well as Bandcamp, where the album can also be pre-ordered.
