Photos and Review by Amanda Daubert – The Pour It Out Into The Night Tour featuring The Revivalists, The Head and The Heart and Jaime Wyatt pulled into Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD Saturday night. With a packed house, on a gorgeous summer night, you couldn’t have asked for a better setting for this stacked line-up.
Kicking off the night was the incredibly talented singer-songwriter, Jaime Wyatt. This Tacoma, Washington native is the beautiful product of two musicians and the rich musical influences of Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Hank Williams. With a warm sound and honest delivery of tough but truthful lyrics, Wyatt was the epitome of grace on stage. Her southern-soul and rock and roll sound, combined with a raspy growl, was just what the crowd needed to start the night.
Next to take the stage were fellow Washingtonian’s, The Head and the Heart. This incredible indie folk-rock band has been a staple on the Billboard charts for the better part of the last 12 years. Their growth and understanding of themselves both individually, and as a band, was the focus of their last album Every Shade of Blue, but more importantly – on nights like tonight, it is the unspoken aurora that surrounds these six beautiful bodies that play as one. The set featured crowd favorites like “All We Ever Knew,” “Dreamer,” and “Let’s Be Still.” There were also some incredible moments when The Revivalists joined the band on stage for the boot stomping crowd sing along “Lost In My Mind,” plus a beautiful engagement during “Virginia (Wind in the Night)” which after the band invited the newly engaged couple on stage for a beautiful slow dance during “Down in the Valley.” It was a joy-filled set that was truly special.
With electricity in the air, the crowd could not have been more excited to welcome the headliners for the night, The Revivalists. The eight-piece New Orleans rock band was greeted with a thrilling energy that was quickly reciprocated, and instantly set the stage for an incredible performance. The set kicked off with two singles from their latest album “Don’t Look Back” and “Good Old Days” then featured set list staples like “Criminal,” “It Was a Sin” and “Soulfight.” Lead singer, David Shaw, was filled with energy and made use of every inch of the expansive stage and pit floor, joining the crowd for a beautiful singalong. The entire band was highlighted throughout the set, each showcasing their incredible talents. Shaw addressed the crowd during their set and shared their passion and appreciation for their band, the music, and their fans, stating “We truly love it and we hope it shows,” and it truly does.
