Photos by Stan Martin – Godsmack is an American rock band formed in 1995 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The band was founded by lead vocalist and primary songwriter Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Tommy Stewart. 

They gained popularity in the late 1990s with their self-titled debut album, which featured the hit singles “Whatever” and “Keep Away.” The album achieved multi-platinum status and helped establish Godsmack as a prominent force in the post-grunge and alternative metal genres.

Godsmack continued their success with subsequent albums, including “Awake” (2000), “Faceless” (2003), and “IV” (2006), all of which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. These albums spawned hits such as “I Stand Alone,” “Straight Out of Line,” and “Speak.”

Known for their heavy sound and aggressive yet melodic style, Godsmack has maintained a loyal fanbase and has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Their music is often characterized by powerful guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and intense vocal performances by Sully Erna.

Throughout their career, Godsmack has received multiple Grammy Award nominations and has toured extensively, performing with renowned acts such as Metallica, Alice in Chains, and Disturbed. They have also headlined major music festivals, including Ozzfest and Rock on the Range.
