Photos by Sharon Steele – Machine Head is an American heavy metal band formed in 1991 in Oakland, California. The band was founded by guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce, who were soon joined by guitarist Logan Mader and drummer Chris Kontos.

Known for their heavy and aggressive sound, Machine Head quickly gained popularity in the metal scene with their debut album “Burn My Eyes” in 1994, which featured the iconic single “Davidian.” The album was critically acclaimed and established the band as one of the leading forces in the groove metal genre.

Over the years, Machine Head has released numerous successful albums, including “The Blackening” (2007), which received widespread critical acclaim and earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Their other notable albums include “Unto the Locust” (2011) and “Catharsis” (2018).

The band has gone through various lineup changes, with Robb Flynn being the only consistent member throughout their career. Despite the changes, Machine Head has maintained their unique sound and lyrical themes that often focus on social and political issues.
