KASIA has dropped the music video for her newest single, “Heartstrings” – which is a house genre release with added elements of bass house, pop, and ethereal house. “Heartstrings” comes after a series of breakthroughs for KASIA in her entry and subsequent rise as an artist and producer in the electronic music genre. A former synth pop artist and international model, KASIA started making her own electronic music in 2021 and through her first wave of singles, she has earned representation from 9MM LABEL, 404 Deep House Records, and Powher Sound, while forming new creative partnerships with the likes of The Funk Hunters, Jonathan Campbell of Twelve Twelve Music, and Sam Ryan of SOS Music. On stage, she hit a new milestone in 2023 as a performer in the Rifflandia Music Festival in her home province of British Columbia.
Tell us about the inspiration behind your new single ‘Heartstrings’.
The inspiration behind my new single ‘Heartstrings’ came from a personal experience of navigating a toxic relationship. After a particularly intense argument with my ex, the lyrics poured out of me as a way to process the heartbreak and turmoil I was feeling at the time.
Is there a message you are trying to convey through your own experiences?
Through ‘Heartstrings,’ I am aiming to convey a message of empowerment and resilience. It’s about finding the strength to break free from toxic relationships and embrace your own worth. My own experiences served as the foundation for this message, and I hope it resonates with others who may be going through similar struggles. Like a lot of artists, I always write from personal experiences.
What is the biggest struggle for you as a musician at the moment?
The biggest struggle for me as a musician at the moment is balancing creative expression with the demands of the industry. It can be challenging to stay true to my artistic vision while also navigating the pressures of reaching a wider audience.
Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with in particular?
In terms of collaboration, there are definitely many artists that I admire and would love to work with. Two artists in particular that come to mind are Grimes and Caroline Polachek. Grimes brings a distinctive blend of ethereal vocals and experimental sounds to her work that I highly respect. I really admire Caroline Polachek’s hauntingly beautiful vocals and intricate production that seamlessly blends elements of pop, electronica, and avant-garde. Collaborating with these artists would offer a rich opportunity for creative growth and musical exploration. Both Grimes and Caroline Polachek are known for their boundary-pushing approaches to music which I see as prompting deeper questions about the essence of life itself.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
What makes me feel passionate about music is its ability to stir up emotions, tell stories, and connect people on a deep level. Whether I’m writing lyrics, composing melodies, or making music videos, music allows me to express myself in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. I see it as a universal language that has the power to inspire, heal, and uplift others.
