Photos by Sharon Steele – The Juno Awards are Canada’s premier music awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in the Canadian music industry. They are often considered the equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the United States. The Junos are presented annually by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and celebrate various genres of music, from pop and rock to country, jazz, and classical.
The awards were first introduced in 1970 and have since grown to include many categories, such as Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Group of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year, as well as awards for specific genres and achievements in music production. The Junos also feature performances by top Canadian artists and often serve as a major event in the Canadian music calendar.
Each year, the Juno Awards are held in a different city across Canada, and the ceremony is broadcast live on television, allowing fans to see performances and celebrate the achievements of Canadian artists.
