Photos by Amanda Daubert/Review by Lily Daubert – American singer songwriter Conan Gray is bringing your slumber party karaoke nights to a whole new level with his 19 date tour “The Wishbone Pajama Show,” in support of his latest album Wishbone. Ready for a fun night of singing and dancing, dressed in their bedtime best and sailor attire, was a sold out crowd at Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, VA.

Starting the fun was fellow singer songwriter Hemlocke Springs. Springs kicked off the night with “Heavun” getting the crowd ready with her high energy performance. Hemlocke Springs surprised fans by singing an unreleased song “Head Shoulders Knees and Ankles”. The crowd cheered loudly for her viral song “girlfriend” off of her 2023 debut album “going…going…GONE!” Then ended her set with “Sever the Blight”, leaving fans in anticipation for Conan’s headlining performance.

Conan rolled onto the stage via bicycle before going into his first song of the night “My World”, an upbeat song with just the right amount of energy to instantly light up the crowd. The energy of the crowd was high throughout the night, from fans singing and dancing to “Bourgeoisiesses” and screaming their hearts out to “The Cut That Always Bleeds”.

A little over halfway through the set, Conan has a tradition of breaking a wishbone with one lucky fan. If they get the larger part of the wishbone, the fan gets to pick one of two surprise songs. The choices Saturday night were “Alley Rose” and “Astronamy.” Tonight’s lucky fan – Diego, won the larger half, giving him his choice of the surprise song! Diego picked “Alley Rose,” which by the roar of the crowd, was the perfect choice! After the surprise song, the energy skyrocketed as Conan broke into his biggest hit “Heather”.

Conan ended the night with “Caramel” while fans sang and danced with each other for one last time. This night felt like a slumber party under the stars, the crowd felt ready to climb into bed just like Conan did on stage, with a heart full of music. If you’re looking for a concert that will make you sing and dance, but also scream your heart out, “The Wishbone Pajama Show” should definitely make it on your list. Be sure you join Conan Gray and Hemlocke Springs as they make their way across the states with their final US stop at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater, before ending the tour with a three city run in Mexico.
