Photos by Sharon Steele – On Friday, June 5, 2026, the PNE officially unveiled the Freedom Mobile Arch with its inaugural Opening Night Celebration, hosted by Canadian icon Jann Arden.
“The Freedom Mobile Arch is a new home for music, art and culture in British Columbia, and we are so proud to feature BC and Canadian artists for the Opening Night Celebration,” said PNE President and CEO Shelley Frost.
Located at Hastings Park on the PNE grounds, the 10,000-seat venue is highlighted by North America’s largest clear-span wood roof and its striking architectural design.
Jann Arden served as both host and performer for the evening, proving to be an ideal choice to guide the celebration. Between performances, she kept the audience engaged with her trademark humour and storytelling, while her own musical set reminded attendees why she remains one of Canada’s most beloved artists.
Opening the musical portion of the evening was Colin James, who earned the distinction of delivering the first live musical performance on the Freedom Mobile Arch stage.
One of the evening’s standout moments came when tenor Spencer Britten was joined by the Universal Gospel Choir for a stirring performance of “You Raise Me Up.”
The celebration showcased a variety of artistic disciplines, including music, dance, comedy, and storytelling. Additional performances came from Tyson Venegas, while Bobby Bruce’s Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band paid tribute to the many years of entertainment history at the PNE with a crowd-pleasing set that honoured the legacy of live entertainment at the fairgrounds.
As both a venue unveiling and a celebration of Canadian talent, the Opening Night Celebration successfully introduced the Freedom Mobile Arch as a significant new addition to British Columbia’s live entertainment landscape. Arden’s presence as both host and performer helped set the tone for an evening that celebrated not only a new venue, but also the artists and community it will serve in the years ahead.
