Photos & Review by William Smith – Govenors Ball had New York buzzing with energy! This year’s lineup featured top-tier headliners like A$AP Rocky, Lorde, and Stray Kids, along with captivating performances from Clipse, Jennie, Katseye, Baby Keem, and many others. The excitement on those festival days was amplified by the Knicks playing in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, adding to the electric atmosphere.
Day 1 kicked off with a soulful, sultry set from Mariah The Scientist, whose angelic voice lit up the main stage. After her performance, we headed over to the Snapchat stage for an adrenaline-pumping show by the long-loved band Pierce The Veil, whose chaotic energy had fans screaming along. Then, it was time for the legendary girl group Katseye, whose performance of Pinky Up, complete with mesmerizing visuals, had everyone—including parents and kids—screaming and dancing.
Back at the Snapchat stage, Baby Keem’s set transformed the area into an abandoned casino, echoing his latest album. As his intro music blared, he appeared atop the casino, spitting fiery bars from his hits. When tracks like Family Ties and Trademark USA dropped, the crowd went wild, jumping and singing along with pure enthusiasm.
Day 2 faced unexpected stormy weather, leading to schedule changes and the cancellation of Kali Uchis’s performance. Despite the shorter day, the festival’s energy never waned. We enjoyed a whimsical yet electrifying set from singer-songwriter Ravyn Lenae, and the night closed out with an incredible performance by K-Pop sensation Stray Kids, whose high-energy choreography and vibrant costumes kept fans on their feet.

Day 3 more than made up for the earlier setbacks, with outstanding performances abound. Blood Orange brought smooth, chill vibes after his set was moved to the final day, drawing audience members into his enchanting musical world. On the same stage, a surprise guest joined Japanese Breakfast’s lead singer for a heartfelt duet that wowed the crowd.
Next, Geese took the main stage by storm, proving why they’re among the most exciting young punk bands today with their energetic performance and passionate fans. Following them, genre-defying singer-songwriter Dominic Fike delivered a raw, hazy set that only he could craft, leaving the audience captivated.
Before the festival’s grand finale, we caught Jennie from BLACKPINK, who stunned with her dynamic stage presence, intricate choreography, and powerful vocals — all without missing a beat. Her high stamina and poise, complemented by vibrant visuals and energetic dancers, made for a truly memorable ending.

Finally, the moment everyone waited for: A$AP Rocky’s legendary closing performance. The crowd buzzed with anticipation as the NY-native took the stage, unleashing organized chaos reminiscent of a city siege, complete with a cityscape setup and helicopter overhead. His entourage, in white T-shirts, blue jeans, and SWAT gear emblazoned with AWGE, added to the spectacle. As he ripped through hits like Stole Ya Flow, Sundress, and Fashion Killa, fans danced, moshed, and shouted every lyric. A special moment unfolded with the performance of Flackito Jodye alongside Dominican star Tokischa, and Rihanna, the mother of his children, along with Jennie cheered him on from the front row.
Although curfew limited his set, there was no denying that Rocky delivered a show for the ages. Despite rain challenges, the event’s incredible lineup and vibrant vendor scene kept the spirit alive. Gov Ball proved once again: when it’s in town, it’s the place to be for an unforgettable weekend filled with music, excitement, and pure energy.
