Originally from Calhoun, Georgia, and now based in Nashville, Tennessee, the sisters first performed together as part of the bluegrass trio The Lovell Sisters before forming Larkin Poe in 2010. Named after a distant relative who was a cousin of author Edgar Allan Poe, the band has built its identity around soulful harmonies, blistering guitar work, and a modern take on classic American roots music.
Following the release of a series of independently produced EPs, Larkin Poe gained widespread attention with their debut studio album, Kin, in 2014. Their collaboration with producer T Bone Burnett on Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes introduced them to a broader audience, while acclaimed performances at the Glastonbury Festival established the duo as one of the festival’s standout discoveries. Over the following years, albums including Peach, Venom & Faith, and Self Made Man showcased their ability to blend gritty blues, hard-hitting rock, and heartfelt songwriting into a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The sisters have become known not only for their original music but also for their exceptional musicianship, with Rebecca’s powerful vocals and electric guitar pairing seamlessly with Megan’s masterful lap steel guitar. Their energetic live performances and relentless touring schedule have earned praise from critics and fans alike, while collaborations with artists such as Steven Tyler, Elvis Costello, Kristian Bush, and Ringo Starr have further highlighted their versatility. In 2024, the duo earned the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Blood Harmony, marking a major milestone in their steadily rising career.
Continuing to push the boundaries of modern blues rock, Larkin Poe released their sixth studio album, Bloom, in 2025. The album further refined their signature sound by combining powerful blues riffs, Southern storytelling, and polished songwriting while maintaining the raw energy that has defined their career. With a growing international fanbase and a reputation for delivering unforgettable live performances, Rebecca and Megan Lovell continue to carry the traditions of American roots music into a new generation, proving that blues and rock remain as vital and exciting as ever.
