After more than a decade since her last full-length release, Badu spent the early part of the year preparing her vast audience for new music, debuting work during high-profile appearances like her Juneteenth celebration in Dallas. Her creative resurgence reached its peak on August 28, 2026, when she released Before the World Blows, a collaborative full-length studio album recorded with hip-hop producer The Alchemist.
Musically, 2026 represented a bold fusion of atmospheric soul, jazz, and gritty hip-hop sampling. Before the World Blowspaired Badu’s signature vocal phrasing and ambient soundscapes with the dusty, intricate production style of The Alchemist. Highlighted by the single “Witch Doctor” and feature appearances from Westside Gunn, Earl Sweatshirt, and Thundercat, the project highlighted her ability to seamlessly bridge generational gaps in alternative hip-hop and R&B while pushing her creative boundaries into fresh sonic territory.
To bring the new music to fans, Badu embarked on a major North American concert series titled LIVE: A September Tour. Joined on select dates by De La Soul, The Alchemist, and Smino, the 13-date tour kicked off on September 10, 2026, at the Ravinia Festival outside Chicago. The run took her through major venues across the continent—including Forest Hills Stadium in New York and the RBC Amphitheatre in Toronto—before concluding with a landmark performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, proving her enduring legacy as a live performer.
