Violentene is a moody synthpop / dreamy darkwave duo, its with excitement we introduce you to new vocalist MVRIJO and upcoming single and EP! The new single “Delusions” (August 20) from forthcoming EP “Otherworld” marks a turning point from our shoegaze past into more synthetic / beat driven territory while retaining the original aesthetic, and emphasis on 80s synth textures and melancholic sweetness. Drawing on past new wave /synthwave and dreampop sonics, the new EP pulls at the heartstrings but remains highly danceable!
Roland formed Violentene in 2017 as a collab with NYC singer Dani Mari, and released two very successful EPs – “Denial” and “Phantom Youth”. Dani left the project in 2019 and MVRIJO stepped into the vocal spot in October, 2019.
The retro synth driven vibe of “Phantom Youth” now feels fully formed and realized, both musically and with MVRIJO in the forefront. Working together locally as a duo in the Ottawa area now allows for live shows/touring, which are on the horizon!
