Ahead of dropping their debut self-titled album, Devon-based UK eclectic pop duo Short-Haired Domestic are back to gift us some new eye and ear candy. Today we have the pleasure of premiering the video for the final single to be released ahead of the big release day.

With every song on their album being sung in a different language, this time they are back in Japanese – Arigatou! Created by Ned Langman, a good friend of the artists, the video for ‘A song in Japanese about trying things out before committing’ offers a frenzy of fun and freaky – all rolled into one digestible sugar-coated visual kaleidoscope.

This lively track is the bee’s knees – upbeat, surreal and frenzied in the best way possible. Feels like a sonic trip to an amusement park and French discotheque. Do we want more? Yes indeed.

Obviously, a lot of painstaking work has gone into audio globetrotting, especially upon learning that the authors spent a few years to record this – apart from writing and recording, they had to bring in translators and language coaches to nail the task at hand.

Short-Haired Domestic is the latest project involving groundbreaking British producer Tim Friese-Greene, together with wife Lee Friese-Greene of 90’s London Riot Grrl band Sidi Bou Said and currently lead vocalist and guitar player for Pavlova

A silent member of Talk Talk and known for his production work with them, Catherine Wheel, Lush, Thomas Dolby, Sidi Bou Said and Firefly Burning, Tim Friese-Greene was among the most innovative producers of his era. After 1995, he shifted his primary focus to creating music as a solo artist, issuing various releases under his own nameand as Heligoland.

At their heart of the new duo are a breakbeat loop, sampled fragments, scratching, insistent funk and Latin rhythms, surprising appearances of acoustic guitar and just about every sound that’s possible to wring from a WASP synthesizer. The result is melancholic and driven with a pop edge and sensibility. Avoiding any whiff of ‘divaness’ in the vocals, these songs instead allow emotion to be largely generated by the music as a response to the lyric.

To date in 2020, the duo has released several singles (all with long quirky names) ‘A song in German concerning gardens and goodbyes’, ‘A song in Spanish addressed to men who drive big cars’ and ‘A song in Latin… A song in Hindi…’, including lead track ‘A song in Latin about the importance of comfortable shoes’

On October 2, the duo will release their ‘Short-Haired Domestic’ LP on vinyl and CD, as well as digitally across digital platforms. It can already be pre-ordered via Bandcamp.
