Starting off the New Year with a bang, 2022 Artist to Watch, Canadian singer-songwriter Alli Walker has dropped her highly anticipated single “Maybe I’m Still Drunk,” the second release from her upcoming sophomore album due later this year. Following her successful return to the airwaves late last year with the nostalgic track “Country Music,” “Maybe I’m Still Drunk” gives listeners the hangover anthem of the year, just over two weeks into 2022.
Written by Hannah Ellis (Curb Records Nashville) and Alex Masters (Sony Countryside Nashville) and produced by Danick Dupelle (Tyler Joe Miller, Emerson Drive), “Maybe I’m Still Drunk” takes listeners back to that one hazy night where caution was thrown out the window without the worry of consequence or how you’d feel the next day, by using a bit of liquid courage. Celebrating every decision made on a night out, both the good and the bad, the new track gives fans a deeper view into Walker’s new direction and sound.
“As soon as I heard this song I knew it was one that so many of us could relate to and that I had to record it,” said Walker of how she fell in love with the song. “This track is the first one I’ve cut that I didn’t have a hand in writing, but I couldn’t ignore how perfectly Hannah and Alex captured that feeling of having one too many drinks and then waking up to figure it all out the next day. I hope by releasing this song I can remind everyone that we’ve all been there and all they need to do is drink some water, turn up the music and keep on keepin’ on.”
Today’s release marks the beginning of what is sure to be a breakout year for the PEI-Native. In late 2021 Walker released her first new music since dropping her debut album The Basement Sessions in Fall 2019, with her viral TikTok hit “Country Music.” On top of racking up over a million views and thousands of comments on her TikTok channel, the track allowed fans to bond over the role country music has played in their lives and the response landed Walker on multiple playlists covers including Apple Music’s ‘Canada’s Country’ and Amazon Music’s ‘Breakthrough Country’ as well as a chat with Apple Music’s ‘The Ty Bentli Show’ to discuss her new music.
Since dropping her debut in 2019 Walker has made quite the mark on the Canadian country music scene, finding her sound and carving her own path in the industry. Walker’s debut focused on what she coined ‘Mindful Music’ and ‘Conscious Country,’ which narrated her own personal mental health journey. Since then, Walker has found her footing and, while her new music isn’t as specifically focused on these topics, she will continue to build a space for vulnerability and honest storytelling through her music. Fans will hear more of this on her sophomore album set to release in Fall 2022.
