Today, bloody white releases his new single “lies we tell,” capturing some of the darker moments in his life. With this new single, we start to understand the weight he carries from his experiences with a toxic lover through his lyricism and sonics. The Santa Barbara-self made singer, songwriter, producer and beat maker continues to subscribe to no genre, keeping up with a creative flair while carving out his own unique path in the anti-pop/alternative space.
The layered production of “lies we tell” opens with piano ballad chords interspersed with static, emulating the sound of a needle running across a vintage record, capturing a somber tone and creating an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The swirling synths build into the cascading drop, which feels like the budding young artist’s interpretation of a future bass track for the broken hearted. Consumed by thoughts of his ex-relationship, instead of coping with his emotions, bloody white searched for an escape. He was getting high to avoid coming to terms with how that relationship damaged him – he felt very lost, and the uncertainty of his future felt like a dark cloud hanging over his head that he couldn’t seem to shake.
“Ice cold just like I was before / All those nights we lived for / What can i live for” “Tell me I’m not crazy when I want you back / Tell me you don’t want me when you’re all I have” – lyrics from bloody white’s “lies we tell”
