Picture this: you’re staring at yourself in the mirror when all of a sudden, your reflection calls you out with a positive message. With two power-packed words, LA-based electro-pop artist Charis’s “Own It” is the pep talk you may not realize you’ve needed. Believing we are often mirrors of each other, Charis’s lyrics speak to the value of self-reflection and self-love; as the song repeats the word “You” to listeners, she is also talking to herself. Set to drop on December 1st, 2021, “Own It” is a call to find true confidence by owning your own story.
“I want this song to remind people to be proud of their story and how far they’ve come,” Charis says adding, “I want them to celebrate themselves.”
A collaboration between Charis and Kedo Rebelle, “Own It” was written to fight against the feeling of not being seen or loved for who you are. In addition to being the lead songwriter on the track, Kedo Rebelle is also the Recording and Mix Engineer for “Own It.” Mastered by Elliot James Mulhern, the track was produced by Eric Moser and Armin Schneider. Filmed by Caitlin Pitt and Patrick Nguyen, the music video for “Own It” features scenes from the desert of Bombay Beach as well as a few scenes masterfully filmed in a friend’s garage.
Charis’s music career includes a fusion of live performances and upbeat music releases that have been met with positive response. As her first foray into pop music, “Own It” is the single from Charis’s upcoming EP, setting a fresh tone for the next wave of music to come. In addition to the EP release, on February 18th, 2022, Charis plans to release a song with polish-dance/EDM record label Magic Records alongside artist/producer Poylow. Her latest release with Charismatic Records, “Touch,” has received 45,000+ streams of Spotify alone, with past releases to include a collaboration with Mirror and Metta for a song called “He.” Prior, her first track, “All On Me,” was recorded in a friends’ attic her junior year of college which, she realized, was only the beginning.
By living out the lyrics to “Own It,” Charis is learning what it means to know her worth while keeping it real and is inspired to help others do the same. “In stepping into your power, you can allow yourself to feel confident and sexy,” Charis shares. “I hope this song can help spark that feeling.”
