Country songstress Jenna Paulette grew up around cowboys, working on her grandfather’s ranch on the Texas-Oklahoma line. Stories became the currency that mattered most: who had the best one. Who could paint the saddest picture. And even though they were the toughest men in the world in her eyes, they were not immune to the gray scales cast by heartbreak. Paulette, writing while looking at the world through heartbreak’s gritty filter, releases “Pretty Ugly,” available everywhere today.

“Heartbreak comes in all forms. Bad news shatters hope and takes what is beautiful and turns it into something you never thought it would be in a split second,” shares Paulette. “It could be a breakup, but it can also be a variety of other experiences. Recently my sister got a call receiving bad news and is now fighting breast cancer. This song is bigger than just heartbreak to me because we are in a not-so-pretty moment in life fighting for hers.”

The artist Billboard celebrates for her “traditional and contemporary country influences” and “descriptive storytelling” recently signed a Global Publishing Deal with Nashville-based Sea Gayle Music. “Pretty Ugly” was penned alongside collaborators Will Bundy, Jeb Gipson, Parker Welling and produced by Bundy. Paulette paints the bitter picture of heartbreak blues:

Roses on the counter are wilted now
Nail holes where I took the pictures down
Right side nightstand looks a little bit dusty
Heartbreak makes pretty ugly
Mascara running down a made up face
Clouds rolled in now it always rains
It was beautiful up until he said he didn’t love me
Heartbreak makes pretty ugly

The new release follows single “Country In The Girl” that gained traction ahead of its release with over 2.5 million views across platforms, with an accompanying music video that CMT.com notes, “celebrates how ‘dang proud’ she is of her roots.’”

Paulette, a CMT Discovery Artist, has toured with Mason Ramsey and opened for classic country acts Clay Walker and Joe Nichols, as her prior independent releases appeared on Apple Music’s “Breaking Country” playlist, Google Play’s “Country’s New Crop” playlist and Radio Disney. Additionally, Paulette has appeared on Apple Music’s “The Kelleigh Bannen Show” and “The Tiera Show” as well as Circle TV’s “The Southern Weekend.” Cosmo has touted her as an “artist to pay attention to,” Cliché Magazine describes her music as “the quintessential combination of modern glam and southwestern grit,” further noting, “Jenna Paulette brings a sound all her own.”
