Canada’s most celebrated country artist Dean Brody has been unstoppable in 2020. Today the award-winning singer-songwriter releases his 8th album Boys, an emotion-filled, 8-track collection that takes fans on a journey with both upbeat party tracks and heartfelt love songs. The album drops today with the debut of Brody’s new single by the same name, a duet with Mickey Guyton.
“My fans and I have created so many happy memories together with music as the soundtrack and I wanted to be able to keep that going, particularly during these unprecedented times,” said Brody of today’s release. “I love sharing my experiences through song and am so appreciative of everyone who has joined my musical journey this year, which is why I’m excited to share the next step with you today – especially as this single features the incredible vocals of Mickey Guyton.”
Staying true to Brody’s deep storytelling roots, the new album brings to life the passage of a boy growing into a man through life’s most notable moments. The title track and new single “Boys,” brings this theme to the forefront, comparing the mindset of being a boy vs. a man and what Brody himself has learned so far through this journey. Though created during the pandemic, Brody was still able to collaborate and work with fellow Canadians such as Donovan Woods (“Stay Up”) and Travis Wood/Emily Reid (“Boys”). Produced by Todd Clark (Phillip Phillips, James Barker Band, the Reklaws) and Matt Rovey (Alan Jackson, Billy Currington) the album keeps one foot planted in Brody’s traditional country music sound, all while pressing forward into new territory, a further nod to the album’s growth narrative.
Earlier this fall, Brody hit one of his biggest career milestones when “Canadian Summer” was crowned Canada’s most played track ever at Canadian country radio in a one-week period, landing the #1 position on the Nielsen BDS Country Airplay chart and the Mediabase chart. The single pulled in a record 1,817 spins, setting the record for the highest one-week spin total on the BDS Country airplay chart and surpassed the record he previously held on his duet with The Reklaws on the GOLD-certified “Can’t Help Myself.” Both tracks can be found on Boys.
The 17-time CCMA Award, two-time JUNO Award-winning artist holds five GOLD-certified (Beautiful Freakshow, Crop Circles, Gypsy Road, Trail In Life, Dirt) and one PLATINUM-certified albums (Dirt) in Canada along with 5 #1s at Canadian Radio. With nearly 12 years of making music behind him, 27+ Top 10 singles and 195+ Million Global Streams, Brody continues to prove he’s at the forefront of the Canadian country music scene. Taking things into his own hands earlier this year with the announcement of his new label Scurvy Dog Records, it’s clear Brody is just getting started on the next chapter.
ABOUT DEAN BRODY
Since his debut single “Brothers” hit the US Top-40 back in 2008, Dean has become one of the most beloved Canadian country artists of his generation.
Dean has risen and continues to remain at the top of the Canadian country landscape with an impressive 27 Top-10 singles (including 5 #1s), 17 CCMA Awards, 2 JUNOs, more than 195 million global streams and numerous gold and platinum (including 1 double platinum) certified singles. Only Shania Twain has more Canadian streams than Dean when looking at Canadian country artists’ “lifetime” results.

In 2019, Dean signed with a new management team (Starseed Entertainment) and launched his own independent label “Scurvy Dog Music”. The label’s first single “Can’t Help Myself” (Dean and The Reklaws) not only hit #1 at Canadian country radio, and became the most-streamed Canadian country song in Canada released in 2020 to date. but it became the most spun single in a one-week period in the country format in the history of the Nielsen BDS era (25 years, including US acts). Dean recently broke this record with his follow-up single “Canadian Summer”.
On top of all this trailblazing on an artist and label level, Dean also created and launched his own signature Canadian-sourced lager “Hucklejack” in the late spring of 2020, securing a rare placement on the Ontario LCBO shelves, a testament to the strength of his star power and music brand.
