A new addition to the Somewherecold roster, Elektra Monet presents her newest EP which is a foreshadowing of her forthcoming album. Three electronic tracks that leave you wanting more, Transience is a sonically a tease in all the best ways. It is the pre-emptive look into a much larger album coming later.
Elektra has performed in numerous venues throughout the United States and Europe. Her deep knowledge of and interest in all genres of music, film, art and culture have greatly influenced her artistic approach to her music making and leadership within the arts. As a violist of the 21st century, she’s open to new styles of music and loves incorporating her classical training into electronic compositions. She strongly believes it’s important to be well-rounded and explore all genres of music as a developing musician. Elektra DJ’d at Burning Man in 2019. Along with viola, she is passionate about composing electronic music under the name “Elektra Monet”. You can listen to her songs on Spotify, and she loves her cat Morrissey.
BIO:
Violist, composer, D.J., and teacher, Elektra Monet currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Elektra received her BM degree from The Juilliard School where she was a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship Award. She studied with Heidi Castleman and Misha Amory. Elektra captured the grand prize at the 2013 Collin County Young Artists Competition. She was a member of the prestigious Perlman Music Program since 2009, where she attended the summer music school, the winter residency in Sarasota, Florida, and the college level Chamber Music Workshop on Shelter Island, New York. She has attended the National Arts Centre Summer Music Institute in Ottawa, Canada where she studied with Pinchas Zukerman.
Elektra has been an active participant in solo and chamber music master classes with Roger Tapping, Alessio Bax, Helen Callus, and Jeffrey Irvine. She is a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award and as a result performed on the acclaimed “From the Top” radio show with host Christopher O’Riley at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas. Elektra performed alongside Itzhak Perlman, Cantor Helfgot and Hankus Netsky for PBS recording special “Rejoice” Eternal Echoes at Scripps Studios NY, NY in December 2013. Elektra began her musical studies at the age of 5 with Nicolette Solomon in Dallas, Texas at the Suzuki Music Institute of Dallas.
