Spring is upon us, which is often considered a time filled with hope & new beginnings. That being said, newcomer emie nathan’s debut single, noman, feels like the perfect companion for the months ahead with its key message of trying to become more “half-glass-full” after a time most of us haven’t enjoyed much. Even if you’re happy enough, or are happy being sad, this remains a bold, accomplished opening remark from a singer-songwriter with an exceptional, singular voice, and simply put; it’s a real banger!
Speaking about noman, emie said “I wrote this song just over a year ago when I was a few months into a new relationship. It tackles the realisation of the fact that I was (more often than not), a glass-half-empty kind of person having previously been sure that I always led with optimism. While not necessarily always a bad thing, I started to notice a default negative response within myself sometimes evading accountability and worst of all not giving myself credit where credit was due. This song marked the willingness to try and see things through a more positive lens, to allow myself to feel celebrated and seen by those who love me, and to hold myself to a higher standard. ”
For emie, writing music is about very human things like missing friends, navigating family, tragedy, heartbreak, falling in love and all the other formative experiences that shape you as a person growing into an adult. She has both enjoyed and suffered from splitting time going back and forth across the Atlantic between London & New York as she’s grown-up. Music remains an anchor for her wherever she’s gone.
