Adelaide guitar prodigy and YouTube sensation, KEYAN is back with glowing new single, “Pulse”. The triumphant tune is the successor to debut EP ‘Gradient,’ and serves as a sonic vessel to highlight the trials and triumphs of everyday life.
The peaks and valleys throughout the track are represented by its various shifts in dynamic, tone and melody. Much like life, the “Pulse” eventually finds itself in a state of nostalgic, emphatic victory at the end of all those experiences, with a soft, reprised outro. The track is accompanied by a music video directed by Caleb Kotsanis and Sam Tan showcasing the guitarist in his element live on stage.
While coming together quickly in the studio, the instrumental track has been a long time in-the-making, with KEYAN writing some elements of “Pulse” years before its eventual recording. “The outro riff is something I’ve been holding onto since 2019, and has been featured on my YouTube channel in various demo songs and playthroughs many times,” explains KEYAN.
“It’s one of the riffs I’m most proud of, and always knew that I would use it officially one day by putting it within a huge, emphatic ending of a song.”
It was raw enthusiasm and excitement from befriending a few major influences that drove KEYAN to finish this particular song. “One notable experience that was a major catalyst for this release was from becoming friends with Plini and having the privilege of seeing two of his shows in three weeks. I left that concert inspired to go home and write something that would not only challenge my abilities as a guitar player, but also further solidify my place in the world of internationally recognised guitar players that I look up to.”
Based in Adelaide, KEYAN quickly made a name for himself in the guitar community through in-depth YouTube, Instagram and TikTok videos. Ranging from brain stuttering riffs, to emotional solos and vocal-like lead work, his niche guitar content has broadly amassed over 5 million views and 150 thousand followers across all social platforms.
KEYAN’s dedication to his craft earned him a place in ‘Top 30 under 30’ by South Australian newspaper The Advertiser and he has since been recognised as one of South Australia’s best new artists. Just this week, KEYAN was selected as a finalist for the HEAVY category in the South Australian Music Awards.
KEYAN’s debut EP ‘Gradient‘ was released in February and earned him a plethora of accolades including triple j play, three showcases at Bigsound Festival 2022 and a Destroy All Lines agency partnership. KEYAN will be marking the launch of “Pulse” at a release show on the 16th of December at Jive Bar in Adelaide.
“Pulse” solidifies KEYAN as an instrumental project sure to leave a hefty mark in his genre. “Pulse” is available and streaming everywhere now.
