Award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hawksley Workman premieres a new single via Isadora Records/The Orchard titled “Dwindling Beauty (let’s fake our deaths together)” today. The track sees Workman take a darker, more contemplative turn with a meditation on emptiness, and questioning what happens if we give into despair: “One day we’ll get tired of the grudge, we’ve held our hates so close for so long, it’s hard to know where it ends, and our real selves begin.” The song is the third single from Workman’s upcoming LP Less Rage More Tears out October 23 and is produced by Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, The National).

In an effort to stay connected with fans worldwide, Workman debuted the first episode of Hawksley Night in Canada in May, an entertaining, handmade and hand-curated, 75-minute music and variety show live streamed from Peterborough, Ontario that is Tommy Hunter meets PeeWee’s Playhouse. In an era of on-demand, Hawksley throws it back to must-see-TV for this live-only show, embracing the magic of collective experience, like concerts from the pre-lockdown era.  The concept has been years in the making but considering Workman’s hectic tour schedule it was challenging to bring to fruition until this year. The first three episodes of Hawksley Night in Canada, featuring hits, quips, live call-ins, and custom-penned songs about pets [CBC, May 21] was a runaway hit selling thousands of tickets to date and drawing Top Trending status on Twitter. The next live stream of Hawksley Night in Canada is September 25 at 5:00pm PT/ 8:00pm ETTickets are $12.00 and available to purchase here:https://hawksleyworkman.com/hawksley-night-in-canada/

Says Workman, “On March 12 during a couple of days off from a tour with Sarah Slean I performed two sold out shows at Paris, Ontario’s Dominion Telegraph theatre. The next morning, I hopped on a tour bus with Sarah and the rest of the band and crew to continue our tour together. The NHL had announced the day before that they were suspending their season, and cities across Canada were starting to ban public gatherings. When we pulled into the loading dock of Ottawa’s Shenkman Centre we got the final word that the show had been cancelled, so the bus turned around and we all headed home.

Over the next 24 hours the rest of the tour was postponed, and by the end of the following week all of my live shows through to the end of 2020 were being rescheduled. What better time than the present to reprise the Hawksley Night in Canada idea.” The seed for Hawksley Night in Canada was planted in the early 90’s when a teenaged Workman had a television show on the local Maclean-Hunter public access station in Huntsville, Ontario. His show, titled 50/50, aired live on Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. opposite Seinfeld. The station manager kept a videotaped wildlife documentary in the broadcast queue, ready to pre-empt 50/50 at the first sign of disaster. Though Workman is rather relieved these days that recorded evidence of 50/50 has not found its way to internet search engines, he was inspired to reimagine the concept which today features:

Pet Songs: A fun, quirky segment featuring an original song plus music video penned by Hawksley about someone’s pet, selected from hundreds of fan submissions.

Hawk Talk: Hawksley provides the number to a landline telephone hooked up in the live studio.  During this segment Hawksley takes unscreened calls live on-air, and has so far had callers from Europe, the U.S. and all across Canada.

Travel Time: Hawksley added this segment to the show as a window into places that we’re not able to travel to right now. “As we all sit in our houses waiting out this pandemic, Travel Time introduces you to some of my favourite international kooks and geniuses to give us a personalized tour of their town or city.” Hawksley Night in Canada has strolled around Cork Ireland with Ronan Leonard and will visit Bergen, Norway with Arild Brakstad next.
