Today, Vancouver alt-rock quartet HOTEL MIRAshares a new music video for their highly infectious single “Alone In America” off of the group’s record I Am Not Myself, released in September 2023 via Light Organ Records. Bursting at the seams with sing-along hooks, “Alone In America” is a song that both flaunts and criticizes American iconography. Shot in Las Vegas and directed by Kassy Mahea, it plays into the glitz and sleaze of the distilled over-the-top grotesque idea of America. The music video comes ahead of Hotel Mira’s 19-date “I Am Not Myself Canadian Tour” kicking off next week in Victoria, British Columbia with support from labelmate Fake Shark. Fans can watch the “Alone In America” music video today and purchase tickets and VIP Meet and Greets for the tour now.

Hotel Mira’s vocalist Charlie Kerr explains, “Alone In America is a song that plays with a lot of American iconography in both the music and the lyrics. Kassy and I were pretty drawn to shooting the video in Las Vegas. We wanted a video that played into these ideas the same way the song does. We shot it pretty guerilla style sneaking around old Vegas using a combination of different media (super 8, digital, polaroid). We loved working with that team so much. Kassy and Amber had such an amazing vision and artistic voice. So we just had the opportunity to fall into whatever they had dreamed up bouncing ideas off of each other until the moment they dropped me off back at my apartment in LA.”
“Alone In America is a song that is about kind of falling in love or being infatuated with a cam girl from the south. And all the fantasy of that. On a more macro scale, it is a song that is both romanticizing and criticizing some Western concepts and iconography. Specifically an obsession with individualism, exceptionalism and the self-made myth (hence alone in America). Also, the song which was already quite dark took on a far darker tone as the Supreme Court attempted to take the rights away from various marginalized groups.”

Over the past few years, Hotel Mira has experienced a whirlwind of impressive achievements including being named the #9 Most Played Artist at Canadian Alternative Rock Radio in 2023, perfectly sandwiched in between industry heavyweights Foo Fighters andDeath Cab for Cutie. Once again proving that Hotel Mira is not one to ignore. Such an impressive feat follows the release of their record, I Am Not Myself. The album’s first single “Fever Pitch” skyrocketed to #6 Alt Rock Radio in early 2023 and was followed up by a second radio single “Dancing With The Moonlight”that became the band’s fifth Top 20 Alt Rock Radio smash! Having garnered over twenty million Spotify streams, five top 20 alt-rock radio hits in Canada, over 60,000 TikTok followers and having played supporting live gigs for music mavens like Billy Talent, Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), The Beaches, Tyson Ritter (All American Rejects), and The Heavy, Hotel Mira are here to stay, cementing their signature alt-rock sound on the global stage.
I Am Not Myself, is a hip-swerving, passionately pop-contorting contemplation of identity. Boasting anthemic and soaring choruses, the 12-track record refuses to sacrifice the group’s sheer rock ‘n’ roll energy. The album was recorded in various studios across British Columbia alongside producers Adam Kasper (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), Ryan Worsley (Fake Shark), Steve Bays (Fur Trade, Hot Hot Heat), Parker Bossley (Fur Trade), Louise Burns, James Younger and more. As Hotel Mira’s profile grew, vocalist Kerr was undergoing a time of transformation himself, writing the bulk of I Am Not Myself while travelling between Vancouver and his now adopted home of Los Angeles. While Kerr admits his anxieties over the move bled into his lyrics, he soon realized I Am Not Myself’s mix of autobiography and tragi-comic character portraits likewise reflected a profound loss of self.
