Canadian artist Emma Kade is excited to share the release of her new pop-country single, “End Game”. Written by Emma Kade and produced by JUNO-nominated artist/producer Nathan Chiu (wayfie), “End Game” is the first single of 2024 for the emerging Creston, BC-based Métis artist. A romantic fusion of pop and country vibes, “End Game” blends wholesome storytelling, lush vocals, urban drums, and dreamy harmonies to capture the magic of Kade’s own love story that inspired the song.

Hi, Emma! You have a terrific new single that just came out called “End Game.” What can you tell us about this song? What inspired you to write it and what is it about?

I wrote this song while retrospectively remembering my life when I met my (now) husband, and how one person can really change your entire life trajectory. I’ve always been fascinated by how so many random coincidences have to align perfectly in 2 people’s lives just for them to meet for the first time. After being a wedding singer for many years, I finally had my own wedding. And to make it extra special, I wrote this song and I performed it in my wedding dress for my husband and guests at my wedding.

What was it like recording this song overall? What was the vibe in the studio, and how did this song, in particular, come together?

With the production, I wanted to emulate that “butterfly feeling”—adding urban-sounding drums, warm acoustic and electric guitar, and dreamy layered vocals that make you feel like you’re floating.

What do you hope this song conveys to those who listen to it?

I think this song is really neat because it is relatable. You can either relate to the cynical aspect of love in the song or the romantic aspect of love in the song. I want this song to make listeners reminisce on their own love stories or give inspiration that it could be right around the corner.

Since you started out, how has your songwriting changed over time — both musically and lyrically? Do different things inspire you now? Where do you tend to get your biggest inspiration from these days?

I have always liked to write songs that tell a story. I have co-written with other various other artists on projects and have songwriting experience across almost every genre, but the story telling aspect always stays the same for me. I want my songwriting to take you on a journey and have some sort meaning. As for inspiration, every song is different. Sometimes I write about my personal experiences, sometimes I write about other people’s experiences (like a friend) or fictional characters and stories. Sometimes my songs are more of like a diary entry of thoughts I have about love, life, the world.

It’s not uncommon for an artist or band to be working on something new while promoting a new single. Do you have anything in the pipeline to follow this single? What’s next from Emma Kade?

“End Game” is my first single that is tied in with the country genre, so I’ve been writing more music that is fully immersed in a country sound. I’m excited to record it and get it out there when the time is right!

Do you have any tour plans? Where can fans see you on the road?

I have lots of shows booked this summer throughout BC, with plans to expand to Alberta.  You can see my upcoming shows through my website at EmmaKade.com.

Is there anything else you’d like to add or share?

I’m grateful to be getting such an incredible response to this song on Spotify so far, so I really appreciate everyone who is listening to it and making me feel welcome in the country genre. Thank you all so much!
