Jo Beth Young releases 2nd album single and music video ‘ADVERSITY’ on March 18th after exclusive premiere on the Saturday Night with Hayley Palmer Show. Following an exclusive premiere on Saturday Night with Hayley Palmer, (SKY 365 on March 5th), ethereal, indie-folk songstress Jo Beth Young (fka Talitha Rise) announces the official release of ADVERSITY the second single and first music video from her upcoming album Broken Spells’

Continuing a new Electro-folk theme, the song explores the buddhist principles of ending the war within and includes a chant to goddess of compassion Kuan Yin. The music video is a homage to this theme, filmed on The Burren in the West of Ireland, and features Jo Beth and shamanic teacher Miska Chaska.

Jo Beth Says:
Adversity written after I had spent some time revisiting Buddhist and Shaolin principles and practises in 2021. I love and very much believe the philosophy that we must be the change we wish to see in the world and that to end the violence outside, we must find a way to end it within. The idea is that when we find that balance between dark and light, Yin and Yang then the light/presence within us becomes indestructible. I wanted to acknowledge the hardness of doing that when the world itself can seem so hard and difficult to manouver in. I chose to include a mantra to goddess of compassion and love Kuan Yin whose story is a moving and powerful example of overcoming persecution, violence and judgement. I originally wanted two female voices on the track to show this duality, but chose instead to do that visually in the music video instead. It was a real joy to bring this track to life with Peter Yates, Ben Roberts, Matt Blackie and of course Kev Bolus who I work with on all my tracks. I was absolutely thrilled the track was chosen as song of the week of Hayley Palmer’s show on Sky!

VIDEO
The music video was filmed in The Burren Mountains in the West of Ireland and features Jo Beth’s good friend Miska Chaska. Miska is a modern medicine woman and yoga teacher  who has lived and worked with the shamanic community in Peru for many years before returning to Ireland. She is very familiar with the buddhist mantras and has joined Jo Beth live for her concerts last year. The video was directed and shot by BBC script writer Nathan Cockerill (from Brighton) and Tomas Domansky, Miska’s partner.
The concept for the video was to show the fight and final union of Yin and Yang. The inspiration Jo Beth said is the Shaolin quote ‘It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war:
After the premiere on Saturday Night With Hayley Palmer, there will be a youtube premiere of the video at 8pm on Jo Beth’s Youtube Channel.
