After revealing a few glimpses of her work of the last few years with Antimatière last fall, Jorane now reveals the song Les tectoniques, the first real preview of HEMENETSET, a major and ambitious work that will come to life on disc at L-A be, September 17, and on stage, in a full-scale show, in 2022. True to her unique voice, Jorane, the explorer of sound and creator of a rare form of freedom, offers a composition that translates her natural instinctive strength. Les tectoniques is the expression of a creative chaos that drives more than it destroys. “Light coexists with the darkness of the abyss”, explains Jorane, “accepting one releases the force of the other.” A vision that is similar to the general philosophy of the artist, who, after the pandemic, wants to imagine life in a new way, rather than trying to recover the old one. Les tectoniques depicts the first inner momentum from which change emerges. “It is a call to rediscover this momentum of the heart and body, to let nature and instinct speak more,” underlines the artist.

With the intention of creating a work where multiple voices interact, Jorane turned to artists from various backgrounds. Thus, an interactive and playful video, directed by François Blouin (Cirque du soleil, Felix and Paul) and created by the Ottomata studio, accompanies the piece. It proposes a musical herbarium, where the flowers come to life under the control of the participant. This online game is a friendly nod to a phrase by Emanuele Coccia in which Jorane finds inspiration: “The world is above all what plants have made of it.”

It also features the world of photography by renowned photographer Damian Siqueiros, who has captured the enigmatic force that Jorane embodies. Lastly, the cover of the extract is a work by Julie Charland, a Montreal artist who works as an image designer for the National Arts Centre.

HEMENETSET

HEMENETSET is a multi-faceted and collaborative work that encourages the audience to surrender to an artistic and philosophical experience of metamorphosis. Imagined by Jorane, this modern symphony of nearly 90 minutes is centered around the concept of instinct and establishes a rich dialogue between art and cutting-edge technology. This breathtaking creation has been developing in Jorane‘s mind for six years now. It is in keeping with the current context, a time of freedom, rebellion, transition and uncertainty, a sign that the artist has been able to open her antennae to the world’s sensitivity.

To this musical masterpiece will be added a whole visual world to which will be added an innovative technology that spectators will discover in the spring of 2022, in the iconography and projections of director François Blouin. Jorane will be at the Grand Théâtre in Quebec City on April 6th and at the Théâtre Outremont in Montreal on April 20th.

Defining herself more and more as a musical speleologist, Jorane has been doing research for the past few years, seeking to deconstruct codes and to imagine new methods of creation. Within the vast musical world that we discover, Jorane takes the unbeaten path to create her own universe and invite the listener to join in. Like the meanders of a matrix waterway―sometimes peaceful, other times turbulent―Jorane lets herself be carried away.
