Saskatchewan based country-pop artist Justine Sletten has been working closely with award-winning producer Bart McKay to create her newest and much-anticipated single, ‘Dandelion’. Written by highly acclaimed songwriters Ashley Gorley, Luke Laird, and Hillary Lindsey, “’Dandelion’ is a fun and energetic story of new love.” explains Justine. “The upbeat lyrics make us feel that very same weightlessness that comes with falling in love. It explores the excitement of new love during a season when most people feel more wild and free.” Throughout the song, Justine’s vocals vary from light and airy to strong and commanding, making ‘Dandelion’ an even more interesting journey – just like love!
‘Dandelion’ is also accompanied by a lyric video that “…helps one visualize being whisked away in the wind. I think it creates the perfect dreamy atmosphere to match the melody,” she says.
Performing since the age of 14, Justine has used competitions to help her gain confidence on stage. She competed in the Global Country Canada Star Search which won her the opportunity to travel to Nashville. While in Nashville, Justine was given the opportunity to work with other industry professionals and she competed in an international competition, winning 1st place in song writing and 2nd in performance.
Justine’s debut EP, entitled Groundbreaking, was released in July of 2017. Incredibly, Groundbreaking spent its first three days in the Top 10 Country Albums in Canada on iTunes!
Justine continued to concentrate on developing her musicianship, social media and building skills in the music industry while finishing high school. In 2020 she released two singles, ‘All Bad’ and ‘Eighteen’. Justine wanted to use these singles to expand on the number of provinces where her songs were being played on the radio. ‘All Bad’ nearly met her personal goal by receiving radio play in almost every province in Canada!
Most recently, Justine released her follow-up single ‘That’s How Goodbye Goes’ in 2021, which charted for 5 weeks hitting #80 on the Trax Report Country Radio chart in Canada and #3 on the Saskatchewan Country Music Association chart.
Justine’s music ranges from the upbeat, new country style of Kelsea Ballerini and classic Taylor Swift to the country pop sound made famous by Shania Twain, all women that have influenced the progression of her sound over the years. Now, ecstatic to share her new music with the world, Justine believes that ‘Dandelion’ is a demonstration of her growth as a vocalist and she is excited to share her new music in the hopes that it will help to take her career to the next level. Although she will always love her Saskatchewan home, she is hopeful that her hard work and determination will now help her to share her music around the world!
