Lailien is the anti-matter twin and alter-ego of poet and creator Brad Shubat. A classically trained pianist from an early age, Lailien fuses a wide range of experimental electronic music and pop sounds that warp together into a symphony of sizzling melodies and ferocious rhythmic pulses.
Since launching his musical career, Lailien has been featured on BBC Radio 6, Sirius XM, and The Line of Best Fit while amassing hundreds of thousands of streams and followers online.
Lailien composes, writes the lyrics, and co-produces for all his music with Grammy winner Mark Zubek — sonically the result is something immediately intimate and gratifying yet new and exciting. Their first album together, ENSŌULAR, was hailed as “the best album of 2019” (Sonic News Blog), “Mesmerizing” (The Line of Best Fit), “Transcendent.. bloody brilliant” (IndieCrush) and as “Dante’s Paradisio on LSD” (Tim Alberdingk Thjim).
Lailien makes what he calls ‘Eschatological Tunes’: Music not for some looming apocalyptic cessation of time, but to reveal time’s openings in an already omnipresent and accessible end, full of immense grace.
On his new record, TA-DA!, Lailien takes the listener on the brink of extinction before whooshing back to reality. Concocting musical potions, he crafts gurgling spells and potions that bubble up in each track. “I’ll Fly with You” showcases epic bursts of sound that melt into the very core of one’s existence while “Money” deals with the topsy turvy salvational aspect of commerce.Multidimensional and inhabiting a poetic lyrical register revealing one’s greater spirit, Lailien opens an intersecting connection with eternity, knowing that the profane and sacred share hidden connections.
