With her newest single, launching across all music platforms on January 6th, 2023, Cassidy Taylor takes listeners to “The Moon.” Inspired by distance, reflection, and finding one’s place in a new setting, “The Moon” offers listeners an aerial view of the singer-songwriter’s transition from the neighbourly network of a small town, to the solitude of the city.
“I play with a metaphor between the sun and the moon, translating the idea of how my friends, family, and hometown reflect on me and make me who I am,” Taylor remarks. “Without them, I felt lost, and everything changed.”
“The Moon” rises as the third single from Taylor’s debut self-titled EP. Recorded in Haliburton, Ontario, the track was captured by engineer Yanni Caldas and features the production efforts of both Caldas and Cassidy Taylor herself. Channelling inspiration from pop contemporaries Taylor Swift and Bleachers, Cassidy doesn’t shy away from spotlighting her truths. With honesty and vulnerability poised at the forefront of her work, Taylor’s music reveals a depth often shadowed by the sunny surface of traditional pop.
Synthesized textures illuminate the track from the onset, expanding into an atmospheric soundscape from which a gentle voice emerges. With the opening line, “Everyone’s here but you, makes for an empty room,” Cassidy sweeps the listener through a tale of shadows and starlight. The longing for home rivals her motives for leaving, in a relatable battle of independence vs. interdependence.
“The Moon” joins forces with previously released tracks “Slip Away” and “Clean” to form an expressive trifecta of singles from Cassidy Taylor’s eagerly anticipated EP.
