Madisyn Whajne shares her latest single “Sweet Talk” along with the video directed by Laura Keightley, premiering now via Indie88. “Sweet Talk” is taken from Madisyn’s forthcoming album Save Our Hearts which is set for release on November 13th. “Sweet Talk” is available now on all music services.
“Sweet Talk was the first song I wrote for this record, explains Madisyn. “It started as a sad love song, but after bringing it to the band it took on a new meaning. Not one where I sat with my sadness and longing, but instead where I took some power back; to remind myself that I can still stand tall in the face of adversity and loss. Whether we are left heart broken or not… all of our hearts keep beating.”
Madisyn Whajne has spent most of her life searching: for her purpose, for her family, for herself. Her life has been shaped by a hunger for truth and understanding, a hunger that lies at the core of her extraordinary debut album, Save Our Hearts, set for release on November 13th.
Taken from her parents before the age of two as part of the infamous Sixties Scoop, in which the Canadian government forcibly rehomed tens of thousands of native children, the indigenous artist grew up without ever knowing her real name, to say nothing of her heritage. “I’ve always felt like a bit of an outcast,” Whajne (pronounced Wayne) confesses, “like I didn’t belong no matter where I went. Music was my escape, though, a place where I could lose myself and find myself at the same time.
For the album Madisyn joined forces with Montreal engineers Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, The Barr Brothers) and Shae Brossard (Bahamas, The Dears), who she’d met while singing backups for Basia Bulat. She is backed by her diverse, multi-generational band including her husband, Bobby Bulat, on drums, producer Jay McBride on bass, and James Gray on guitar.
Recorded live to tape at Montreal’s famed Hotel2Tango studio, Save Our Hearts is imbued with a visceral sense of loneliness and longing, a burning desire for connection and companionship that propels it endlessly forward in pursuit of something perpetually out of reach. an invigorating, bittersweet debut that insists on resilience and survival in the face of doubt and disappointment.
