Emerging atmospheric metalcore quintet Midwinter have today unleashed their new single “Champagne” via their new label home, Papercut Recordings. The track captures the band’s signature style, blending crushing heaviness and electronic dissonance with soaring vocals and moments of luminous clarity. Accompanying the release is the cinematic music video, which evokes the decadent spirit of the Roaring Twenties but emphasizes the song’s theme of emotional divide when paired with the song. When asked about the inspiration and sound design of “Champagne”, the band shared:
“‘Champagne’ is used as a metaphor to celebrate something that is actually hollow. It symbolizes escapism and temporary euphoria. At its core, the track explores abandonment and betrayal but are masked behind something generally associated with a celebration.
Sonically, we wanted to experiment with contrasting emotions. Similar to the lyrics, certain sections of the track emote feelings of beautiful nostalgia but soon give way to extreme and jarring textures. Blending these together creates a push-pull between optimistic reflection and the pain of loss.”
