Today, April 8th, Morcheeba release a brand new remix from in-demand New Zealand-based producer Race Banyon, who flips ‘Oh Oh Yeah’ into a multi-pronged, contemplative electronic groover that oozes class and musicality, but never holds back on its feet-shuffling rhythmics.

Here, Race Banyon showcases the same suave artistic prowess that has seen him draw a wide range of plaudits from the likes of ClashFAZEmagDummy and This Song Is Sick, with the former hailing his “experimental take on melody and structure”. Manipulating the silky smooth vocals from Morcheeba’s stellar original cut, the NZ artist makes smart use of that spellbinding looped vocal, mesmerisingly fused together with a wide range of digitised instrumentation and core elements from ‘Oh Oh Yeah’.

As it gradually builds from its euphoric beginnings, Race Banyon slowly layers and teases more and more electronic gold, growing into a crescendo of sunlit vocals and raw, glowing synthetics, really taking pride in its intro as those marching kick drums begin to take hold. Poolside, beachside or clubside, this one’s an absolute winner across the board, and is sure to go down a treat in all settings upon release.

This fresh rework from the Kiwi beatsmith follows the recent success of top-drawer remixes from the likes of UK legends Orbital, Brazilian house lynchpin Gui Boratto and French electronic/alt-pop maestro Voyou, who’ve all put their esteemed touch on a number of selections from Morcheeba’s acclaimed ‘Blackest Blue’ project, with a remix from prolific Israeli artist Kutiman still to come. Whilst Banyon’s remix will release digitally, the rest of the above remixes will come together to form Morcheeba’s upcoming exclusive Record Store Day 12” Vinyl LP, ‘Blackest Blue – The Remixes’.

This remix follows the acclaimed launch of Morcheeba’s 10-track ‘Blackest Blue’ album in May 2021, released independently via their very own Fly Agaric Records. Earning a 5-star review and described as “bold, mercurial, and enthralling” by Albumism, Race Banyon’s new remix is the perfect accompaniment and extension of the full-length project, along with a series of new remixes due throughout 2022.

Morcheeba’s global reach is impressive, taking them to every corner of the world, and their signature chilled electronic/organic sound has been border-hopping ever since the London-based band emerged as a household name. The past year has been one of introspection for the duo, as they took stock of their renewed global fan base by playing UK and European festivals over the summer ahead of their own headline tour in 2022, which will see the band playing Birmingham’s O2 Academy 2 on Wednesday 4th May, Manchester’s O2 Academy 2on Thursday 5th May, London O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Saturday 7th and Brighton’s Chalk on Wednesday 11th May. Tickets are on sale now and available from www.gigsandtours.com / www.morcheeba.uk.
