Her songs may be heard across radio stations everywhere, but even 2x GRAMMY-winning songwriter, Natalie Hemby, is not immune to radio silence. On her new song, Radio Silence, available everywhere today, Hemby showcases her acute metaphorical lyricism as she details the deafening sting of a fading friendship. Listen to Radio Silencehere.
Co-written by Hemby, with Rosi Golan (Dear John, Vampire Diaries, Grey’s Anatomy) and GRAMMY-winning songwriter, Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves’, Golden Hour), Radio Silence is a slow-burning ballad from Hemby’s Pins and Needles album, out October 8 via Fantasy Records. Pre-order Pins and Needles here.
“This song is basically about being ghosted by a friend, only not because of a fallout, but because your friend doesn’t want to drag you into their struggles, so they shut down,”says Hemby. “I was the friend, and Rosi Golan was the one reaching out. She and I wrote this song with our friend Daniel Tashian.”
In addition, Hemby was just named Female Songwriter of the Year for the 2021 MusicRow Awards. Read more here.
Last week, Hemby launched her Hemby Sessions series on her YouTube channel, in which she will perform some of the best songs she’s written for other artists. Watch her perform Rainbow, a song written for Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour album here.
Hemby’s return to Newport Folk Festival, where she made her breakthrough appearance as a member of The Highwomen (along with Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile and Amanda Shires) in 2019, this past July was greeted with praise from Rolling Stone who deemed it “instantly memorable” and Consequence who marked it a “landmark first” for Hemby as a solo artist. Later this year, she’ll perform sets at festivals like Park City Song Summit, AmericanaFest and Roots N Blues, and an album release show at Nashville’s beloved Basement East.
