Critically acclaimed Brooklyn duo, Overcoats, today share the bedroom mix of their single, Fire & Fury, along with an accompanying music video. The song is taken from their The Fight (Continued) EP, which is comprised of five stripped down renditions of tracks from their sophomore album, The Fight (Loma Vista Recordings).Fire & Fury (Bedroom Mix), like the rest of the EP, serves to reinforce themes of the album: avowing friendship, striving for loyalty, and seeking hope in the face of adversity. Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell of Overcoats offer a rallying cry to push through the ubiquitous feelings of fear, uncertainty, and restlessness during these difficult times.
The Fire & Fury (Bedroom Mix) music video depicts quarantine and living in isolation through the lens of dance and togetherness through social media. The video starts with shots of Hana and JJ in their respective homes, before moving to clips of friends, collaborators, and fans dancing in their homes, rooftops, and backyards, and finding release in the song’s lyrics of “there’s a fire, there’s a fury, sky is falling but we’ll get through it.”
“This feeling of restlessness and being stuck in your room is common amongst all of us, so we wanted to make a video that made that frustration beautiful and made us feel like we were all together,” Overcoats shares about the video. The dancers are friends, collaborators and fans that we have known and worked with from all five years as a band. Dancers in LA, NY, Minneapolis and elsewhere. Kate choreographed the dancers in the I Don’t Believe In Us music video, which Ceci was a co-star in. Dani and Cam choreographed the routines for the original Fire & Fury music video, while Liam is a long time fan and friend whose movement has always inspired us. Quarantine actually provided a unique opportunity to get all of these amazing dancers from our circle together in one video…which never would have been possible in normal times because of where everyone is based.”
