Photography by Sharon Steele – vFrank Turner is an English folk and punk singer-songwriter born on December 28, 1981, in Bahrain, where his father worked. Raised in Meonstoke, Hampshire, Turner attended Eton College before studying at the London School of Economics. His musical journey began as the vocalist for the post-hardcore band Million Dead (2001-2005). After the band’s dissolution, Turner embarked on a solo career, merging punk rock energy with folk storytelling.
Turner’s debut solo album, Sleep Is for the Week (2007), marked the beginning of his distinctive fusion of acoustic-driven folk-punk. His breakthrough came with his fourth album, England Keep My Bones (2011), which featured the anthem “I Still Believe.” Known for his relentless touring schedule, Turner has built a reputation as a passionate live performer.
Over his career, Turner has released multiple albums, including Tape Deck Heart (2013), Positive Songs for Negative People (2015), Be More Kind (2018), and FTHC (2022), which became his first UK No. 1 album. His lyrics often explore themes of personal reflection, politics, and community. Turner is celebrated for his DIY ethos, dedication to his fans, and ability to blend introspective folk with a punk spirit.
