Photos by Brad Goldstein – Khruangbin is an American musical trio formed in 2009 in Houston, Texas. The band consists of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums.

Khruangbin’s sound is heavily influenced by 1960s and 1970s Thai funk and soul music, as well as surf rock, psychedelic rock, and dub. Their music is instrumental and combines elements of funk, Middle Eastern, and Asian music, creating a unique and eclectic sound that has garnered them a dedicated fan base.

The band released their debut album, “The Universe Smiles Upon You,” in 2015, followed by “Con Todo El Mundo” in 2018 and “Mordechai” in 2020. They have toured extensively around the world, gaining a reputation for their dynamic live performances and hypnotic grooves.

Khruangbin’s music has been featured in films, TV shows, and commercials, and they have collaborated with artists such as Leon Bridges and Bonobo. They continue to push boundaries and explore new musical territories, solidifying their place as one of the most innovative and exciting bands in contemporary music.
