Photos by Adriana Marquise – Mother Mother is a Canadian indie rock band formed in 2005 in Quadra Island, British Columbia. The group consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Ryan Guldemond, alongside his sister Molly Guldemond (vocals, keyboard), and a rotating lineup of musicians. Known for their distinct blend of alternative rock, pop, and experimental sounds, Mother Mother quickly gained recognition for their energetic performances and unique sonic landscapes. They incorporate a wide range of influences from folk to rock, often blending complex harmonies and witty, introspective lyrics.
The band first gained major attention with their 2008 debut album Mother Mother, but it was their 2012 release The Sticksthat marked their breakout into mainstream success in Canada. Hits like “Hayloft” and “O My Heart” garnered significant airplay, and they solidified a loyal fanbase. Over the years, Mother Mother has continued to release critically acclaimed albums such as No Culture (2017) and Inside (2020), maintaining their reputation for musical innovation and emotional depth. Their powerful live performances and genre-blending style have made them a standout act on the Canadian and international indie music scene.
