Photos & Review by Sharon Steele – On June 26th, Cage The Elephant made their fifth stop on the 45-date Neon Pill 2024 tour at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena. Supporting their first album in five years, “Neon Pill,” the band brought a dynamic show to a packed audience.
The concert opened with performances by country artist Willow Avalon, the UK’s Bakar, and California’s Young Giant. Each act offered a distinct musical style, providing a diverse and entertaining prelude to the main event.
Cage The Elephant took the stage at 9:25 PM, kicking off with “Broken Boy.” Frontman Matt Shultz captivated the audience with energetic dance moves and crazy jumps that aligned to the pyrotechnic displays. Guitarist Brad Schultz also ventured into the front stage area, engaging directly with fans. It was setting a precedence on the energy level that the band is known for. So many people have stated they love seeing this band live, as they just engage with their audience on so many levels. This was apparent tonight.
The band played a setlist of 21 songs, showcasing their extensive catalog. Highlights included hits like “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” “Shake Me Down,” and “Come a Little Closer.” The audience lit up the arena with their phones during the more emotional tracks, creating a memorable atmosphere.
Throughout the performance, they just dug in and played their songs for the audience to enjoy, with minimal banter between, letting the music speak for itself.
Matt Shultz’s exuberant stage presence showed that this band understands that his chaotic and emotionally charged vocals are the focus. Cage The Elephant’s live show demonstrated why they are a standout act. Attitude and Sass along with catchy melodies, make this one surprisingly very likeable concert experience, and I highly recommend you check them out live on this tour.
