Photos & review by Amanda Daubert – There’s no better way to cure your turkey hangover than a night with Cleveland based blues-rock band, Welshly Arms, who took the stage at House of Blues for their annual Thanksgiving show Friday night. The hometown show, attended by family, friends, and fans, was the perfect way to end the US leg of their Bad Decisions tour.
Excited to debut several songs off their upcoming album Wasted Words & Bad Decisions, set for release in Spring 2023, band members Sam Getz (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Weaver (bass), Mikey Gould (drums), Nate Saggio (keyboard), and Jon & Bri Bryant (vocals), were buzzing with energy. While the band has released a handful of singles over the last few years, this album will be their first full-length release since No Place is Home in 2018. With a sneak peek into the sound of the new album with singles “Dangerous” and “Proud,” Welshly Arms is planning for a triumphant return, and hoping to skyrocket past the success of “Legendary” with these future chart topping songs.
The set kicked off with a powerful unreleased single off Wasted Words & Bad Decisions, titled “One More Hallelujah,” an amazing song that truly showcases the incredible vocals of Getz. This was just one of many unreleased songs off the upcoming album that was featured throughout the set. With a wide range of style from the emotion filled “I Surrender” to the heavy hitting, good ol’ fashion rock and roll track “Have It All,” the new album is sure to satisfy the growing desires Welshly Arms fans have been cultivating over the past four years.
The night also featured crowd favorites like “Sanctuary,” “Indestructible,” “Legendary,” and “Down to the River,” which showcases the soulful vocals of the beautiful Bri Bryant. The evening featured a few surprises including a guest appearance by former member Brett Lindemann, a cooperative and celebratory birthday drink pass from Getz to their coveted sound technician Brendan Goers, and a shockwave to the crowd with the mash-up of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade.” After a fantastic performance the night ended with the high energy and emotionally uplifting “Learn to Let Go,” a sing-along for the heart, and a perfect end to an incredible night.
Be sure to watch for Wasted Words & Bad Decisions next Spring, and if traveling abroad, catch Welshly Arms on their European tour kicking off April 13, 2023.
