Photos by Jen Vesp – Stereophonics is a Welsh rock band formed in Cwmaman, Wales, in 1992. The band originally consisted of Kelly Jones (vocals, guitar), Stuart Cable (drums), and Richard Jones (bass), and they quickly became known for their gritty, melodic sound that blended elements of rock, grunge, and Britpop. Stereophonics gained significant attention with their debut album Word Gets Around in 1997, which featured the hit single “Local Boy in the Photograph.” Their follow-up albums, including Performance and Cocktails (1999) and Just Enough Education to Perform (2001), continued their success, solidifying them as one of the leading acts of the British rock scene.

Throughout their career, Stereophonics has undergone lineup changes, with drummer Stuart Cable leaving in 2003 and being replaced by Javier Weyler. Despite these shifts, the band’s core sound has remained consistent, characterized by Kelly Jones’ distinctive vocals and heartfelt lyrics. With a string of successful albums, including Language. Sex. Violence. Other? (2005), Pull the Pin (2007), and Kind (2019), Stereophonics have maintained a loyal fanbase and remain a prominent figure in the UK rock scene. Their music, which often delves into themes of love, loss, and personal reflection, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
