Photos by Sharon Steele – Travis is a Scottish rock band that became one of the most influential acts in the Britpop and alternative rock scenes of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band was formed in 1990 in Glasgow by lead vocalist and guitarist Fran Healy, bassist Dougie Payne, guitarist Andy Dunlop, and drummer Neil Primrose. They are best known for their introspective lyrics, melodic guitar-driven sound, and Fran Healy’s distinct, emotive vocals.

Travis is often credited with influencing a generation of British rock bands and artists. Their sound, especially from The Man Who and The Invisible Band, set a template for many alternative rock acts in the 2000s, and their emotionally honest, melodic approach to songwriting is still influential today. Fran Healy’s distinctive voice and their ability to craft memorable, emotionally-charged songs like “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” have ensured that Travis remains a beloved and iconic act in UK rock history.
