Beloved Australian five-piece Pond is back today with new single “Terrestrials,” a type of meditation on the great mystery of humanity, capable of both love and cruelty. The single is complemented by a video produced by Jesse Taylor Smith. Watch it below.
POND’s frontman Nicholas Allbrook spoke on the new single, saying “”Gum wrote the music for this one and we recorded this in Mullumbimby with Julian Abbott at Nowave studio. This song is about the weirdest of all the terrestrials, people. Hellbent on flying away from or killing our home soil, with a big appetite for destruction, guns, roses. We can love and connect and nurture and inflict unbearable cruelty. You all know this but, yeah, it’s kind of a great mystery isn’t it? It’s almost more supernatural than extraterrestrials. Which is probably why we wrote this song. There aren’t many of us who can forget for even a second about the unborn tomorrows and dead yesterdays but among them are, apparently, kids and people in love. My cousin Iz helped write this with our chats.”
Along with the new video, POND is excited to announce they will bring their electric live show on the road this summer, joining Djo—the musical project of actor, producer, and songwriter Joe Keery, known for his work in Stranger Things and Fargo. Tour dates include shows in Pittsburgh, PA, Queens, NY, Richmond, VA and more. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 20 at 10am local time.
“Terrestials” is the first new music released by POND since their tenth album, Stung!, which was released to critical acclaim across the globe. Uncut, MOJO, Rolling Stone Aus, DIY, Dork, and Clash all published 4-star reviews for the LP. UPROXX wrote that the album was “Rimming with fuzzed-out guitar tones, bombastic drumming, and alluring sonic trickery.”
