Clara Venice, the world’s first and only pop thereminist, will release her single “Can’t Connect” on all digital platforms July 31, 2021 aka Uncommon Instruments Awareness Day. Today the “Can’t Connect” music video dropped, which is the first single from her upcoming mini-album Pop Culture Sadness, due for release in Fall 2021.

The theremin is the only instrument in the world that one plays without touching it, by moving one’s hands around the two antennas, or “space controllers.” As such, for Clara Venice, it was a symbol for our connectedness throughout the events of the past 18 months.

Recorded in the deep woods of Ontario throughout the lockdown, “Can’t Connect” is a playful exploration of feeling disconnected from the world of social media, and wanting a reboot. “Can’t Connect” is a LOFI bedroom pop single in collaboration with Toronto Production duo Young Wolf Hatchlings, which includes theremin, and glockenspiel, with personal ASMR audio artifacts including whistling, water splashing, hands clapping, and dial tones.

“Can’t Connect” is the first single on the Pop Culture Sadness mini-album, as part of the Dreamology project. Clara Venice’s Dreamology is divided into four mini-albums based on four seasons and four elements, each with its own mood/intention. Dreamology is the first theremin-pop album where the theremin is used on each song as the inventor Leon Theremin intended – as a proper instrument and not a novelty sound effects machine.

Vocalist, producer and “Canada’s Theremin Prodigy,” Clara Venice is a futuristic pop artist whose fusion of technology with music and art has mesmerized audiences from Tokyo to Toronto. She is one of the world’s leading thereminists, and is featured in the permanent electronic music  gallery of the National Music Center, where she was an Artist In Resident. Clara has opened for renowned acts such as the Violent Femmes, Barenaked Ladies, and Carole Pope/Rough Trade. She has performed at Spotify, Apple (San Francisco), Sofar Sounds, CMW, NXNE, TIFF, Art Gallery of Ontario, TimeOut Tokyo, Word on the Street, Hot Docs and has an official TEDx Talk.
